Gurra Downs Date Palm Nursery is a family business run by Dave, Anita, Brian and Ruth Reilly.

The Reilly family operate the nursery on their horticultural property in the Riverland of South Australia. The property overlooks the picturesque Gurra Gurra Lakes and wetlands - a backwater of the River Murray, from which they irrigate.

Their nursery has been established using elite date palm varieties originating from imported tissue cultured stock supplied by world leaders in the micropropagation of date palms.

Whilst their nursery offers a range of different varieties/fruit styles, they are focussing their own fruit growing efforts on producing 'Barhee' (Khalal, yellow, sweet, crunchy, semi-ripe dates), Medjool and other early ripening varieties in their semi-arid Riverland climate.

Australian grown dates show bright prospects for supply into the Australian domestic market and export potential also exists to supply fruit into northern hemisphere markets. Gurra Downs has supplied planting material to growers in WA, NSW, Qld and various locations throughout South Australia, and aim to link national fruit production into a co-ordinated marketing strategy.
